Texas Nursing License Endorsement: Preparation Checklist

Start by separating two questions: where you legally reside, and where you intend to work. Endorsement and compact practice privileges are different routes. This preparation guide helps you collect the information needed to check the appropriate route; it does not determine eligibility.

1. Write down your starting position

• Your license type, issuing board, number and current status.
• Whether the license is single-state or multistate.
• Your primary state of residence and whether you are moving permanently.
• Where you completed your nursing education.
• Whether you previously held a Texas license.

2. Check the official application route

Read the Texas Board endorsement instructions and licensing FAQ before opening an application. Match the instructions to your license and education history. A renewal or reactivation question should not be treated as a first endorsement application. Record the exact official page and date you checked it.

3. Build a document log

Create four columns: requested item, official sender, date requested, and confirmation received. Use them for license verification, education records and any other items required in your specific instructions. Check which records must come directly from an institution or licensing authority; a personal copy may not satisfy that instruction.

4. Check before paying

• Confirm the official portal from the Board website.
• Read the current fee and refund terms.
• Check fingerprint instructions and any required course or exam instructions on the official route.
• Save submission receipts and follow-up dates.

Do not assume that paying, submitting, or seeing a pending application authorizes practice. Confirm current license or privilege status with the relevant board before starting work.
